The Danbury Superior Courthouse was evacuated at approximately 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27 when a suspicious powdery substance was discovered in the lobby of the building, officials said.
According to the City of Danbury Fire Department, first responders managed to evacuate more than 200 occupants of the building and protected the area while the incident was investigated.
“FD on scene at 146 White Street Superior court for a white powder substance. Building evacuated and we are in the process of testing the substance," Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton wrote on social media.
He later updated that the “white powder issue should not be a problem according to (Danbury Police) Chief (TJ) Wiedl.”
The Fire Department said that the Housatonic Area Regional Transit (HART) company supplied a bus to be used as a shelter for the evacuees due to the cold windy weather.
After the samples were analyzed by the fire department's HAZMAT Team, it was found that the substance was acetaminophen (also known as Tylenol) and was not a threat to anyone in the area of the incident.
“With this information, the affected area was cleaned and the building was re-occupied. The building and the occupants were able to return to normal operations within an hour," the fire department said. "This incident was deemed to be accidental in nature with no threat to the public."
